Watering properly

Water in the Morning

Watering during the late morning and afternoon is a waste of water and money because the water will evaporate in the heat of the day and you will have to leave your water running longer to get the same amount into the ground as you would in the morning. Water in the morning so that your grass and plants receive the moisture they need during the hot days.

Water Infrequently

Watering too much leads to shallow root growth. Grass with short roots is less resilient and less effective at allowing stormwater to infiltrate into the ground during large storms. Limiting the amount that you water also saves you money!

Only water about one inch of water each week. You can figure out how long you need to leave your sprinkler going by putting out a container and timing how long it takes to fill it with one inch of water.
